Our Comprehensive Approach to Eye Exams
Our experienced team is dedicated to thoroughly evaluating your eyes and vision during every exam. Our goal is not only to update your prescription but also to detect potential vision issues or early signs of eye diseases. Our comprehensive eye exams are designed to track your vision and overall eye health.
When to Schedule Your Eye Exam
Regardless of age, regular visits to the eye doctor are important for monitoring visual health. The Canadian Association of Optometrists recommends the following exam schedule:
- Adults (20–64): An eye exam at least every 2 years
- Seniors (65+): Annual eye exams
Depending on your unique risk factors for different vision problems and eye diseases, our optometrists may tailor an eye exam schedule specific to your needs.
The Importance of Regular Eye Exams
Aging brings natural changes to our eyes, but certain age-related conditions, such as presbyopia or cataracts, can impact vision significantly. Regular eye exams provide us with the opportunity to monitor these changes, and see that your prescription is current while addressing any concerns you may have.
Your vision matters to us, and we are dedicated to preserving your eye health and helping you achieve better vision.
What to Expect During Your Eye Exam
During your comprehensive eye exam, we will review your medical history and discuss any family history of eye diseases or vision issues. Our team will then conduct a series of tests to assess the health of your eyes and determine your prescription. Some of these tests include:
- Visual Acuity Test: Evaluates how well you can see at various distances
- Refraction Test: Determines the right prescription for your eyeglasses or contact lenses
- Ocular Motility Test: Assesses the movement and alignment of your eyes
- Slit-Lamp Exam: Examines the front and back of your eye with a special microscope
If any indications of eye disease or vision-related conditions are identified, we’ll work collaboratively with you to develop a personalized treatment strategy that aligns with your lifestyle, budget, and vision needs.
We aim to make eye exams comfortable, informative, and enjoyable for all our patients.
Dilated Eye Exams for Comprehensive Assessment
We also recommend and offer dilated eye exams to check for signs of eye diseases early on, when they may be easier to treat. Dilating your pupils allows us to assess for conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
For your convenience, we suggest arranging transportation with friends or family after a dilated eye exam, as it may affect your up-close vision for a few hours.
