If you’re experiencing eye fatigue, irritation, excessive watering, or blurred vision, these could be signs of dry eye. Dry eye is a common condition that happens when your eyes don’t produce enough quality tears. At Erie Shores Eyecare, we offer comprehensive dry eye assessments and tailored treatment options to help you effectively manage dry eyes.

The journey to relief begins with a thorough eye exam. Schedule your appointment today to discover how we can address your specific dry eye needs.

Understanding Dry Eye

Dry eye extends beyond discomfort, potentially causing corneal damage if left untreated. Tear production is a crucial factor in preventing dry eye. Your tear film consists of 3 essential layers:

  • The oily outer layer
  • The watery middle layer
  • The inner mucous layer

During your dry eye assessment, we’ll examine your eyes to identify the cause, and tailor a treatment plan accordingly.

Common Dry Eye Symptoms

Recognizing the signs and symptoms of dry eye is important for prompt and effective treatment. Some of these may include:

  • Eye fatigue
  • Red eyes
  • Blurry vision
  • Gritty or foreign body sensation
  • Stringy discharge
  • Light sensitivity
  • Increased sensitivity to glare
  • Eye discomfort
  • Excessively watery eyes

Our comprehensive dry eye assessment takes all of these symptoms into account to craft a personalized solution just for you.

Digital Eye Strain & Dry Eye

Digital eye strain and dry eye often go hand in hand, particularly with our screen-intensive lifestyles. Extended use of digital screens may increase the risk of dry eye.

While engrossed in digital content, our blink rate decreases by up to 60%, leading to increased tear evaporation and, consequently, dry eye. To help combat this, make a conscious effort to blink when using digital devices and give your eyes regular breaks from screen time.

Our Dry Eye Assessment & Quiz

Dry eyes can stem from various causes. Our comprehensive dry eye assessments are designed to identify the underlying issues. Our team performs a series of tests using modern diagnostic tools to assess your eyes and determine a personalized treatment plan.

If you’re experiencing dryness and irritation, take our dry eye pre-screening quiz to assess whether dry eyes could be the cause.

Understanding Meibomian Gland Dysfunction

Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) is a condition affecting the meibomian glands responsible for producing the oil layer of the tear film. When these glands become clogged or inflamed, they can’t produce enough oil, leading to rapid tear evaporation and dry eye symptoms.

In-Office Dry Eye Treatments

Our array of in-office treatments can help address dry eye symptoms long-term. Taking into consideration environmental factors, lifestyle factors like digital eye strain, and other variables, our team works closely with you to determine the best treatment option.

Intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy targets dry eye caused by MGD. Using a handheld device emitting light pulses, we gently warm the clogged meibum in the meibomian glands, allowing for its removal through meibomian gland expression.

LipiFlow is an in-office treatment utilizing a small, handheld device to address MGD. It applies gentle heat and light pressure to warm and remove thickened meibum, improving gland function for long-term relief.

Radiofrequency thermistors target clogged meibomian glands with radio waves, liquifying thickened meibum for its gentle removal.

ZEST assists with eyelid debridement, relieving dry eye symptoms. It removes bacteria, debris, oil, and residue through gentle exfoliation and addresses demodex issues linked to blepharitis and severe dry eye.

Omega-3 supplements from PRN enhance tear film quality, reducing tear evaporation and improving dry eye symptoms.

These eye drops contain trehalose and sodium hyaluronate, protecting and hydrating the eyes to resist stress from dry environments and tear film changes.

These masks use gentle warming heat to alleviate dry eyes caused by MGD and blepharitis, improving meibomian gland function.

Designed for overnight corneal protection, Ocunox provides long-lasting dry eye relief during the day, particularly useful when our eyes don’t produce tears while sleeping.

This natural eyelid cleanser, formulated with okra complexes, addresses irritated and dry eyes, removing debris for enhanced comfort.

A 3-in-1 solution for dry eyes caused by allergies, Zaspray provides long-lasting relief from itchy, irritated, and red eyes.

Featuring powerful active ingredients, BiHoCL offers fast and effective relief from dry eye discomfort, promoting hydration and comfort.

Preservative-free wipes reduce signs and symptoms of blepharitis when used 1 or 2 times daily per week.

A preservative-free cleansing gel for optimal ocular hygiene, recommended for use 1 or 2 times daily as needed.
